How to say of in Finnish
How to say of in Finnish
The English preposition of is expressed at least in four different ways in Finnish:
With a genitive:
- Helsingin yliopisto - University of Helsinki
- Karibianmeren merirosvot - Pirates of the Caribbean (No, the translation is not really used. But it could be!)
With a compound word:
- Valtaistuinpeli - Game of Thrones
- Terspakarat - Buns of Steel
With the elative ending sta or the ablative ending lta:
- Mene pois / ulos tlt! - Get out of here!
- Oletko nhnyt Eedenist itn -elokuvan? - Have you seen the movie "East of Eden"?
- Haluan kiitt sinua itini puolesta. - I want to thank you on behalf of my mother.
With something absolutely different:
- Nelj tytt ja maagiset farkut on mahtava elokuva. - The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is an awesome movie.
- Totta kai! - Of course!
